Corporate Travel Management is introducing alternative aviation fuel scores for airlines when travellers are making bookings on its Lightning online booking tool (OBT).
CTM is working with UK-based specialist RDC Aviation to provide “sustainable” aviation fuel (SAF) scores for more than 250 airlines as part of the booking process.
These scores will be displayed to travellers when searching for flights, alongside other information such as price, seat availability, estimated carbon emissions and whether the flight is within travel policy.
The SAF scores have been created for each airline by RDC Aviation using a variety of criteria, such as their agreements to buy alternative fuels; whether they are working with providers to test, develop and produce the fuel; as well as if they have taken stakes in fuel production companies.
Other factors contributing to these scores include carriers’ CO2 offsetting initiatives, the inclusion of alternative fuels in their sustainability programmes, and the efficiency of the aircraft fleet.
Lauren Hook, CTM’s global head of sustainability, said: “We’re excited to strengthen our partnership with RDC Aviation to deliver SAF scores for each flight option in Lightning for our customers.
“With corporate sustainability reporting mandates in play, businesses, governments and non-profit organisations are seeking ways to minimise the environmental impact of their corporate travel, and we are here to support those goals. Equipping our customers with the right information at the time of booking is key to achieving this.”
CTM trialled the new alternative fuel scores with a small pilot group of customers in Europe last year. They are now also available to clients in North America and Asia, and will be rolled out to the Australia and New Zealand markets during 2025.
