Eurostar resumed operating direct train services from Amsterdam to London on Monday (10 February) following the opening of a new UK departure terminal at Amsterdam Centraal station.
The high-speed train operator has been forced to operate services from Amsterdam to London via Brussels since June 2024 due to the redevelopment of Amsterdam Centraal, although direct London-Amsterdam services have continued to operate as normal.
Eurostar said it would now operate three daily services on weekdays and Sundays from Amsterdam to London St Pancras, with two trains operating on Saturdays.
The company added that it planned to ramp up services between the cities in the coming months with the ambition of offering five daily trains on the route by next year.
Gwendoline Cazenave, CEO of Eurostar, said: “This is more than just a train journey - it is a seamless connection between two vibrant capitals, offering our customers an efficient, comfortable and sustainable way to travel.
“Eurostar is proud to unveil this state-of-the-art terminal, reinforcing our commitment to providing a seamless, sustainable travel experience. We know we will welcome more passengers on board as we continue to grow our services and set the standards for connectivity across Europe.”
As well as housing UK Border Force immigration officials, the new terminal at Amsterdam Centraal also offers wifi for passengers, seating areas and a café.
Capacity on its Amsterdam-London trains will increase by 10 per cent to 400 passengers per journey from 10 February to late March.
Although Eurostar will have to briefly return to operating its Amsterdam-London services via Brussels between 30 March and 22 April when the UK terminal will temporarily close to allow work on the platforms at Amsterdam Centraal to be carried out.
After that work has been completed, Eurostar will immediately increase capacity from Amsterdam to 600 passengers per train, which will go up to the full capacity of 650 passengers from Amsterdam by September.
Seema Malhotra, the UK’s minister for migration and citizenship, added: "I am pleased to see the reinstatement of the direct Eurostar connection to London from the Netherlands. Our hard-working UK Border Force officers based in Netherlands will ensure that our border security remains robust."
