The Lufthansa Express Rail network of joint train-to-flight services has been extended to include local public transport, such as buses and trams, across Germany.
As part of the long-time collaboration between Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn, the companies announced that Express Rail bookings (which include services to Frankfurt Airport from 27 German cities as well as from Basel, in Switzerland) now include the DB City-Ticket.
This means a Lufthansa boarding pass is now also valid for travel by bus, tram, underground and suburban railway to and from the Express Rail station, according to the companies.
The expanded offer is available across 26 cities, with the exception of Siegburg and Basel. Travellers can use local public transport before and/or after their trip, with the DB City-Ticket component valid for one trip in each direction.
The companies said demand for intermodal services has “risen continuously” in recent years, with "around" 500,000 passengers using the Express Rail service in 2024 for arrivals and departures at Frankfurt Airport.
