European ground transport platform Bolt has purchased Danish ride-hailing company Viggo in its "first-ever acquisition”.
Estonia-based Bolt said the deal would allow it to offer ride-hailing in Denmark for the first time, as well as adding to its existing e-bike rental service in Copenhagen. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Viggo, which was founded in 2019, operates a fleet of more than 300 electric vehicles in Denmark and said it was “Scandinavia's first taxi service with a 100 per cent electric car fleet”.
Markus Villig, Bolt’s CEO, said in a LinkedIn post: “We are excited to announce our first ever acquisition - Viggo. They have done a fantastic job building the highest rated taxi service in the country.”
Bolt has also partnered with Danish taxi company Taxi 4x27, which will add its fleet of more than 600 vehicles to Bolt’s mobility app.
Lars Speekenbrink, Bolt’s regional general manager for Northern Europe, added: “We are committed to investing in Denmark for the long term - bringing more competition, innovation and sustainable mobility solutions to cities across the country.”
In another move, Bolt announced it has added a flight tracking feature, which automatically adjusts the time of a passenger’s ride from the airport if their flight is delayed and can also cancel the ride completely when a flight is cancelled. The service comes at no additional charge to users.
Bolt, which was set up in 2013, currently serves more than 50 countries throughout Europe, Africa and Asia.
